In order to deliver a COVID-secure, contact-free event at Run Silverstone this year, the format of the event has required extensive adaptation. Every inch of the site will be used to minimise contact and give participants as much space as possible throughout the event.
The family mile would usually take place ahead of the mass start for the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon. These races will now be taking place simultaneously throughout the entire event from 08:00 to 16:00, with start waves allocated by pace.
It is not viable to allocate waves to the family mile for it to take place alongside these distances, and it would not be possible for parents to complete the family mile with their child and make it back to the start line in time for their wave due to the one-way system in place around the site.
The one-way system from the car park to the start line - and from the finish line back to the car park - is using much of the space available at the site. Families and children will not have anywhere to wait or spectate whilst their parent or guardian is completing their 5K, 10K or Half Marathon.
We're sorry to inform you that, with these measures in place, the Family Mile is sadly no longer possible.
